"Wellsville Canal" 5X7 pastel on sanded paper

"Wellsville Canal"       5X7      pastel       Terry Moss       $120
Painted on archival sanded paper

Brought out my pastels today. It has been a long time but I managed to paint four small paintings today. There is something about the earthiness of pastel that lends itself to landscapes. I love to use them to paint rural areas and especially marshes and small creeks. Can be purchased on my Etsy

What a pear!

"Beautiful  Pear" 5X7 watercolor on Yupo

I have been experimenting painting on Yupo paper and having a great time. Yupo is a smooth surfaced plastic paper. The paint sits on the surface and puddles until it is dry.  The watercolor paint is easily removed to regain the white of the paper. As you see I have applied splatters of paint after the paint is almost dry as well as water splatters when the paint was wet.

These paintings are a result of a series of pear studies.

You Dirty Dog is finished

"You Dirty Dog"
11X14  on Yupo paper
by Terry Moss

This was painted on Yupo paper using several different techniques. Positive and negative painting, rolling over wet paint and adding texture to the background by rolling with paper towel, blotting with tissue and splattering. I also pulled off paint where needed with a wet brush.

"Peridot" 8X10 watercolor on Yupo.
coming out in print and cards

Every once in a while I just feel like playing and trying new things. This was a product of that play.  Yupo is a unique plastic like paper. The paint stays on the top of the paper an then dries. It is great for puddling, running, blending on paper, and lifts perfectly for restoring whites. I even like how the pencil marks resists the paint and shows through as white. The toughest thing I have noticed that it is hard to get darks. You get one chance to get it as dark as you want. Well you could wipe the paint off and then start again. This is about the 5th painting I have painted on yupo. Too much fun. Try it!
